For the nature lovers, the hanging gardens of Marqueyssac are to be visited!

Located about twenty kilometers from our campsite near Sarlat, this site also offers a magnificent and unobstructed view of the Dordogne valley.

MARQUEYSSAC GARDEN : ITS HISTORY IN A FEW WORDS

It is around the castle of Marqueyssac, built in the 18ᵉ century, that the gardens and its 6 km of shaded walks are installed.
A listed site, this garden is the most visited in the Périgord Noir and one of the most beautiful gardens in the Dordogne.
Indeed, its 150,000 boxwoods are highlighted by its hand-cut shapes.
Through this site divided into 3 walks, you will discover the belvedere, the rock garden, the waterfalls, greenery, animals… as well as fun activities for your children.
Spread over 22 hectares, the gardens of Marqueyssac dominate the Dordogne valley, more than 130 meters above the river.
The view on the numerous classified villages and castles of the Dordogne is exceptional.
Since 1948, the castle is registered as a historical monument.
Dogs are accepted, kept on a leash.

THE ANIMATIONS OF THE GARDENS OF MARQUEYSSAC IN BLACK PÉRIGORD

In addition to the beauty of the site, many animations are proposed throughout the seasons.
The two most important activities are of course the via ferrata and the candlelight tour.
Indeed, a course along the cliff is proposed for the adventurers, from April to October: the via ferrata.
Thanks to this activity, you will discover the Dordogne valley differently.
The second main event is Marqueyssac by candlelight.
Every Thursday evening in July and August, the gardens are visited by the light of 2000 candles, at night!
Apart from these activities, you can also participate in the Easter egg hunt, the woodturner’s workshop…
