A HISTORIC CASTLE IN THE DORDOGNE

Dating from the XIIᵉ century, this fortress is located 10 km from Sarlat la Canéda, one of the most beautiful villages in France, and less than an hour’s drive from our campsite.
Restored, it offers visitors a magnificent collection of weapons and armor, which appeal to young and old alike.
Classified as a historical monument since 1966, this castle is open all year round and the rates to visit it are affordable. He was one of the major players in the Hundred Years War.
Schedules vary according to the season, so be sure to ask before you go! And at certain periods, during the vacations for example, animations are organized by the owner.

VISIT OF THE CASTLE OF CASTELNAUD

From our campsite in the Dordogne, the access to the Castle of Castelnaud is easy since it is enough to take the departmental roads for a good thirty kilometers.
You can go there with your family, with your partner, alone or with friends, especially since inside this medieval monument, you will find a museum of warfare in the Middle Ages where you can admire 250 collection pieces.
Life-size reconstructions of war machines are also available.
Moreover, thanks to the work of the current owner, this superb historic site has benefited from important restorations.
During your visit to the medieval castle, you will also enjoy a magnificent panorama of the Dordogne valley and the Dordogne river!
In addition to individual visitors, this place steeped in history welcomes adult and school groups for guided tours.

 

RATES AND SCHEDULES OF THE CASTLE OF CASTELNAUD

If you stay at our campsite in the Dordogne, we strongly advise you to visit the Château de Casltelnaud. Regarding the opening hours, please note that it is open :

  • from 10am to 6pm in February, March and from October 1st to November 12th ;
  • from 10am to 7pm in April, May, June and September;
  • from 9am to 8pm in July and August;
  • from 2pm to 5pm from November 13 to the end of January and from 10am to 5pm during the Christmas vacations.

Rates vary depending on your age (adult, child 10 to 17 or under 10), on the time of year (reduced rates are available for certain time slots) and on your visit and the number of visitors (individual or group).
