When the sun shines, the retractable roof disappears to let you enjoy the warmth and fresh air. TOURISM IN PÉRIGUEUX
Don’t miss out on some sightseeing in the Dordogne during your stay in Perigueux! The city of Perigueux has been awarded the “City of Art and History” label and has, among other things, 44 buildings classified as historical monuments and two museums approved as “Musée de France”. Don’t miss the majestic cathedral of Saint-Front dating from the 4th-5th century, the monastery of Puy Saint-Front which became a cathedral in the 16th century, partly rebuilt in the Gothic era and of which only a fragment of the church and the Romanesque cloister remain. Also not to be missed during your visit of Périgueux: Vesunna, a Gallo-Roman site and its museum which gathers a historical and archaeological collection of importance (tombs, sculptures, engraved limestone blocks…) and recalls the history and the life of the city of the Petrucores of the time.
In the south of the city, next to the Vesunna museum, you can admire the Vesunna tower, ruin of a Gallo-Roman temple dedicated to the cult of the goddess of the Petrucores Vesunna and built at the end of the 1st century or in the 2nd century. Another jewel of the Périgord is the municipal museum of art and archeology of the Périgord (MAAP), the oldest museum of the Dordogne which holds no less than 45 000 works of art with 2 000 m² of permanent exhibitions, collections of prehistory, art objects, paintings, sculptures… Don’t hesitate to discover the most beautiful villages of the Dordogne and the most beautiful villages of France close to our campsite!
